“Through my immersion in monochrome photography, I’ve come to value the bond between composition and subject. Stripping color away diminishes distractions and shows if the subject has any artistic essence.
I find myself drawn to the timeless traditions of Northern and Flemish Baroque painting, where the interplay of light and shadow lend the scene a palpable sense of drama and depth. Some elements of expressionism infuse my photography as I aim to incite contemplation and challenge viewers to confront discomfort.
Each photograph is composed to convey specific emotions or sensations, sometimes even veering into the bombastic.
For me, photography is more than just capturing moments—it's about storytelling and eliciting visceral responses.”
Gabrielius uses Canon 5DS R + Zeiss Otus 1.4/55 and Fujifilm GFX 50R + GF63mm F2.8 R WR cameras.
